"Lighthouse of Alexandria" 340-piece plywood model kit

This majestic wooden model represents one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—a giant lighthouse built by Ptolemy I and Ptolemy II in the 3rd century BCE at the western edge of the Nile River delta in Egypt. For the first time in Ugears' history, the Lighthouse of Alexandria includes electrical components that illuminate the model from within, making it a beautiful and functional nightlight.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria, constructed of massive stone blocks and over 100 meters high, was one of the tallest man-made structures of its time. It stood for more than a thousand years until a series of earthquakes, the last in 1303, caused it to collapse into the sea. The remnants of the great lighthouse, including granite blocks, columns, and sculptures, were rediscovered on the floor of Alexandria's harbor in 1968 and can still be explored by divers today.

The Ugears wooden model of the Lighthouse of Alexandria is largely based on surviving historical records, making it an engaging and accurate replica. Dedicated to Zeus, the model is crowned with a cutout of the god holding a thunderbolt. Parapets, towers, walkways, and a dome enhance the architectural design, with laser engraving replicating the look of stone blocks and shingles. True to Ugears' style, this static model also features moving elements: the front and rear gates at the base can be opened using knobs.

Crafted from 3 mm high-quality composite wood, the model incorporates electrical components, lamps, and an acrylic lens. It can be powered by either USB-C (via phone charger) or three AA batteries, with a charging port and an on/off switch located at the rear of the base. Two LED lights provide a warm glow—one at the top illuminates a flame cutout behind the lens, while the other lights up the tower’s latticework. This makes the Lighthouse of Alexandria not only an architectural marvel but also a cozy nightlight. Standing 31 cm tall, the model is the perfect size for a nightstand.

The model is of medium difficulty, consisting of 340 parts, and offers over six hours of engaging assembly.

The kit includes natural composite wood parts, pre-cut with lasers, electrical components, 2 LED lights, an acrylic lens, sandpaper, and wax for smoothing and lubrication. Like all Ugears models, the Lighthouse of Alexandria requires no glue or special tools to assemble.
